China Football Bans: Lifetime Bans Issued in Crackdown

The Chinese Football Association decided to impose strict penalties in one of the largest corruption cases the game has ever known in the country, including the final suspension of 73 people from engaging in any football-related activity, in addition to imposing disciplinary penalties on 13 clubs active in local competitions.

These decisions came after lengthy investigations that revealed the involvement of a number of officials, coaches and players in cases of match-fixing and serious disciplinary violations, which necessitated taking firm measures to protect the integrity of competitions.

Regarding the punished clubs, the Federation explained that the penalties consisted of deducting points from their balance in local competitions, in addition to imposing varying financial fines, according to the degree of each club’s involvement in the proven violations, with strict official warnings being issued regarding any future violations.

The Chinese Football Association confirmed that these measures fall within a comprehensive anti-corruption strategy, stressing that the next stage will witness tightening oversight and discipline, and not tolerating any practices that affect sporting values ​​or harm the image of the game.

These developments come at a time when Chinese sports authorities are seeking to rebuild local football after years of crises that negatively affected the reputation of the league and national teams.
