Botafogo have been barred by a Brazilian court from selling players and assets after a ruling on Thursday.
AFP reports that a Rio de Janeiro judge issued a provisional order suspending all acts related to player or asset sales, plus any other actions with economic implications. The judge also instructed John Textor, who runs Botafogo, to state within 48 hours whether he has carried out, plans to carry out, or is conducting asset negotiations or distributing dividends.
The ruling came a day after Eagle Football Holdings Bidco removed Textor from his director role at the company, which controls the club.
Botafogo won the 2024 Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores. Since 31 December they have been under a FIFA transfer ban over a debt linked to the transfer of Argentina international Thiago Almada, who is currently at Atlético de Madrid.
As a result, the club have been moving to sell players. The latest exit is Venezuelan midfielder Jefferson Savarino, who joined Fluminense last week, while Marlon Freitas and David Ricardo have gone to Palmeiras and Dynamo Moscow respectively.
