Canucks Sell-Off: Next Player to Leave?

The Vancouver Canucks continue to clear out the roster and create capspace.
At the same time, they have now ensured that they have more draft choices this summer than usual.

Last year, the Vancouver Canucks were “forced” to act. It was a question of who they would keep between JT Miller or Elias Pettersson. After the conflict between them, which became public and official, the American disappeared to the New York Rangers in a fight.

During the season, Vancouver has gone really hard in the league, and continued to purge their team of stars. At the same time as there were rumors that Elias Pettersson would disappear, they have chosen to replace superstar Quinn Hughes. It is not yet entirely clear whether they intend to do the same with the EP40.

There have been rumors of a move for Pettersson to several clubs in the NHL, which you can read more about here.

Betting on draft picks

On Monday, they continued their purge of the squad and the Canucks could announce that they traded Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks. The forward has scored 63 points in the NHL for the Canucks since arriving from Nashville in 2024.

25-year-old AHL defenseman Cole Clayton is going the other way, as are two second-round picks in the NHL draft. One in 2026 and one the following year.

Thus, Vancouver has a lot to look forward to in the draft this year. They have earned an extra pick in the first and second round and thus have two in each round. Then they lost their pick in the third round but still have picks in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
