CAN 2025 FIFA Ranking: Morocco 8th, Senegal 12th – Latest Update

This will probably not console them. Beaten this Sunday in the final of the African Cup of Nations by Senegal, the Moroccans undoubtedly still looked at the new Fifa rankings this Monday. Updated to take into account the results of the competition, this proves the excellent form of the Atlas Lions for many months, with an 8th place.

Before the tournament, Morocco was only in 11th place. But thanks to its final, the host country of this CAN 2025 has now overtaken Croatia, Germany and Belgium. It is now only ahead of big names in world football, notably Spain, Argentina, France and Brazil.

Morocco, best African team since 1993

This 8th place is doubly historic. Firstly because Morocco had never reached such a place in its history. But also because no nation on the African continent had achieved it. The Regragui and Hakimi version of the Atlas Lions therefore seem to be the best African team in history, or at least since 1993 and the introduction of the Fifa ranking. A status which was however not confirmed in the final against Senegal.

With this title, the Lions of Teranga also made a nice jump in the ranking, with a 12th place. They thus surpass Japan, Switzerland, Uruguay, Mexico, the United States, Colombia and Italy. This bodes well five months before the 2026 World Cup, where they will face France and Norway in the group stage.
