The sports revolution in Calahorra continues in 2026 with new sports equipment and more facilities to practice outdoor sports in different parts of the city.
The mayor of Calahorra, Mónica Arceiz, and the Sports Councilor, David Antoñanzas, have come to the Quintiliano school to see the new basketball baskets and the new soccer goals with nets, expanding the possibilities of playing sports for both the students of the educational center and the citizens.
“We committed to promoting sport and converting public spaces into places for physical activity, coexistence, and accessible to everyone and we are fulfilling it,” highlighted the mayor, who continued that “we are talking about a sports revolution with more infrastructure like these and a new soccer field, practically finished, but also with hosting national sporting events such as the Spanish Triathlon Championship and the European Triathlon Championship and promoting the culture of sports and we have done it with tennis clinic sessions with Pepe Imaz and Marko Djokovic and paddle tennis, the adapted tennis school and a series of talks.”
Likewise, the Aurelio Prudencio school already has a ping-pong table with an anti-vandal net in its patio and will soon also have a mini fronton, which will be the first in the city, increasing the variety of sports disciplines.
The playgrounds of both public educational centers will remain open to the public on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the winter and from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the summer months. Also from Monday to Friday in the afternoons, outside school hours.
Calahorra continues to advance in its commitment to sports. “Our purpose is to continue creating more sports facilities because there was a deficit in the city. We are in favor of sports because it is important for all ages,” according to Mónica Arceiz.
In addition, the Cidacos park has expanded its sports offering with the installation of a ping-pong table with an anti-vandal net and a volleyball net, the first in the city located in a public space.
This new equipment is added to the parkour circuit, the Calisthenics park, the 3×3 basketball court and the climbing wall, installed last December.
The climbing structure, both for experienced climbers and for people who want to get started in this sport, is one of the investments in the 2025 municipal budget agreed upon between the municipal government team and the municipal group of Izquierda Unida.
