Benfica & NOS TV Rights: Negotiations Confirmed

Benfica SAD and NOS confirmed this Monday that they are in negotiations for a new agreement regarding television rights for the next two sporting seasons. The information was officially communicated to the Securities Market Commission, both by Clube da Luz and the telecommunications operator, at a time when the topic gains special relevance before the opening of the markets.

Benfica’s statement states that the conversations concern the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons, precisely the period before the centralization of audiovisual rights for Portuguese football comes into force. Shortly afterwards, NOS issued an identical note, confirming that negotiations are ongoing, without revealing any values.

This step comes after it was announced that the agreement could be worth around 100 million euros for both seasons, that is, around 50 million per season, figures that would place Benfica once again at the top of the national television rights market.

The relationship between Benfica and NOS dates back to 2015, when a historic contract worth 400 million euros was signed to exploit the broadcasting rights for the club’s games. The agreement provided for an initial duration of three years, with the possibility of annual renewals, and ends at the end of the current season.

As the end of this link approaches and the centralization of rights approaches, this new understanding assumes strategic importance for the incarnated SAD, which seeks to guarantee financial stability in a period of transition to a new model of television exploitation.
