The 1st BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim won an intense home game in the 1st Badminton Bundesliga on Sunday. The Saarland team won 4-3 against 1. BC Wipperfeld and moved up to second place in the table.
Both teams were unable to compete with their best players because international tournaments were taking place at the same time. At BCB, among other things, doubles specialist Marvin Seidel had to help out in the men’s singles. There he fought a duel at eye level with Matthew Grimley, who came on as a substitute for Aaron Sonnenschein at Wipperfeld. Seidel won the first set and narrowly lost the second set 12:14 after slipping away unluckily. As a result, Seidel had to give up the game with a muscle injury.
“We don’t yet know exactly how bad it is. The investigation will show that in the next few days. But we hope that Marvin will only be out for a few days and that it’s nothing major,” explained team manager Peter Käsbauer, who was happy about the important home win despite the difficult squad planning.
Frederik Søgaard’s comeback in the BCB jersey caused great enthusiasm in the Joachim Deckarm Hall. The Dane immediately became the match winner and contributed two decisive points with victories in the 2nd men’s doubles (with Mark Caljouw) and in the mixed doubles (with Isabel Lohau).
“It’s nice to wear the blue jersey again and be part of the team again. Those were two good wins today and I really enjoyed the games at a high level,” said Søgaard happily after the game.
The other points for the BCB were scored by Mark Caljouw in the first men’s singles and Kalojana Nalbantova in the women’s singles.
The BCB continues with the next home game on Sunday, February 8th at 3:00 p.m. Then SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen will be playing in the Joachim Deckarm Hall.
