A life-size statue of the Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros disappeared from his hometown, Pedreña, in Cantabria, in the north of the country, in an alleged robbery.
Seve Ballesteros, who died aged 54 from brain cancer in 2011, won five Grand Slams … between 1979 and 1988. The statue, which represents the celebration of the Spanish golfer after winning the British Open in 1984was installed in a park in the town of Pedreña in 2017.
The mayor of Marina de Cudeyo – where Pedreña belongs -, Pedro Pérez, said that there was “indignation, disbelief and sadness” after the apparent theft of the sculpture.
The Marina de Cudeyo city council announced the disappearance of the figure on Monday on its social networks. “The Local Police and the Civil Guard have started an investigation to try to clarify this unfortunate event, in which everything points to a robbery,” he stated.
