On Sunday, there was an invitation to a team tournament in badminton in Ribe Fritidscenter’s Hall 3. Unfortunately, the tournament was hit by a boring cancellation, as the 1st team’s opponent, Skovbakken, withdrew and Ribe Badminton Club thus won 13-0 without a fight. It also means that Ribe has qualified for the promotion play-off and that the next match is on 31 January. The first home game in the playoffs in the district series, where you play the best of 13 games, is on 22 February in Ribe Fritidscenter Hall 3.

The club’s 2nd team in series 1, on the other hand, came into action and had to face Team Aabenraa. Here they had revenge, as the previous match against the team from Southern Jutland resulted in a defeat of 10-0. In series 1, you play the best of 10 games.
The club’s 2nd team is an important basis for the success of the 1st team, as this is where you gather experience and get a match routine. Occasionally there are players from the 2nd team in the 1st team’s matches due to cancellations. The team consists of skilled players and is a good mix of young and old. The age range is from 17 to 51 years.
One of the big motivational factors is in the long run to improve through the hard matches, so that you can talk about being selected for the 1st team.
Today’s match unfortunately ended with another defeat, as the opponent went home with a 3-7 victory. However, the progress since the last meeting with Team Aabenraa meant, in addition to the minor defeat, that they won more 3-set matches.

Conditions improved considerably
At Ribe Badminton Club’s own initiative, the home court today appears as a modern badminton hall with 5 green courts. Furthermore, the walls have been dimmed in a shade of gray that is more optimal for the players. This has been achieved by contributing a considerable amount yourself and also receiving funds from the foundation. Ribe Leisure Center has been extremely benevolent in relation to giving the green light to the changes to the half-floor and walls that were needed.
Ribe Badminton Club
Ribe Badminton Club continues to experience progress. The club, which became the club of the year in Denmark in 2024, has 323 members this year compared to 300 last year, and the development can be felt in the halls, where both youth, seniors and exercisers fill the training times.
The number of members has increased over several seasons, and this is also reflected in the team tournament. This season, the club has registered more teams than before. There are nine youth teams divided into U9, U11, U13 and U15, two girls’ teams, five senior teams and a new 60+ team for exercisers.
The team matches are primarily played against clubs in South-West Jutland, but some rounds also require trips to East Jutland. For the youngest players, the team tournament is often the first encounter with the competitive format, where matches are played as part of a joint team.
The activities in the club are largely carried out by volunteers, both for team matches and at events during the season. This applies to everything from fighting to planning rallies and joint activities.

Vestermark Cup
In mid-January, the Vestermark Cup will be held in Ribe Fritidscenter, where all three halls will be put into use. The event gathers over 200 players from several age groups and is the club’s biggest event during the year.
The season continues with youth team matches, club championship and play-offs for the first team.
