The 2026 Badminton State Championship in Braunau – a sporting anniversary in a festive setting.
BRAUNAU. Last weekend, Braunau not only celebrated high-class badminton sport, but also a special anniversary: 50 years of badminton in Braunau. For this occasion, the Braunau district sports hall was transformed into an impressive tournament arena, which did justice to the athletes as well as the numerous visitors.
Top athletes at the start
In addition to committed amateur players, the best badminton players in Upper Austria were on the courts – many of whom are among the top Austrians who are active in various Bundesliga clubs. Already on Saturday an exciting tournament day developed, which thrilled the audience with thrilling rallies and intense duels.
Supporting program for young and old
The organizing team from the Raiffeisen Braunau Sport Union ensured that the anniversary was a success not only in terms of sport but also in terms of atmosphere. A raffle with attractive non-cash prizes attracted numerous participants. Fans and players were able to shop in the Badminton Vienna PopUp Store. And a professional stringing service offered the opportunity to have rackets re-strung directly on site.
Saturday evening ended with the award ceremony for the senior individual competitions and a cozy players’ dinner – a meeting place for exchange, community and sporting stories.
Final day: Top-class decisions
On Sunday the semi-finals and finals as well as the senior doubles and mixed competitions were on the program. The atmosphere in the tournament hall was excellent, supported by fair play, sporting passion and a committed Braunau badminton community. Braunau was also able to enjoy great success in sports. The local athletes secured several national championship titles.

- 3rd place women’s doubles: Monah Kundl with partner Sabina Balut

- 1st place men’s singles 35+: Rok Cinc
- 2nd place men’s singles 35+: Stephan Kundl
- 1st place men’s doubles 35+: Rok Cinc with partner Göran Schwack
- 3rd place men’s doubles 35+: Hin Wong with partner Stephan Kundl
- 3rd place mixed doubles 45+: Mirjam Kundl with partner Stephan Kundl
