The state badminton championships started in Klagenfurt on Friday.

This Friday, the 69th Badminton National Championships opened in the St. Ruprecht ball game hall.

Austria’s badminton leaders are still fighting for the title until this Sunday. 95 participants from all over Austria are taking part. After 1976, 1996 and 2002, Klagenfurt is the venue for the Austrian State Championships for the fourth time. With the cancellation the ASKÖ kelag Carinthia entrusted.

Ceremonial opening

Governor Peter Kaiser opened the event and warmly welcomed all participants to Carinthia. He was particularly pleased about the presence of many young people who “will see good sport” here. Badminton, which is an Olympic discipline, is a sport with a future and great youth work. “The sport of badminton is a combination of head, eyes, strength, technique and joy of running,” said the state governor. He thanked everyone responsible for making the state championships possible: “The awarding of the state championships to Carinthia shows once again the importance and excellent reputation that the sports region of Carinthia has earned as a host far beyond the borders of our federal state!”

70 years of the Carinthian Badminton Association

Dem Carinthian Badminton Association (KBV) congratulated Kaiser on its 70th anniversary. The KBV is the oldest regional association in Austria and was founded in Villach in 1956. By awarding the state championship to Klagenfurt, the association sees a great opportunity to make badminton more visible in Carinthia and beyond and to inspire young talent. High-class competitions, an anniversary program and a reunion of the badminton scene are expected.

69th Austrian State Badminton Championships

Saturday, January 31, 2026:

  • 9 a.m.: Round of 16 games, all competitions
  • 2.30 p.m.: Quarter-finals, all competitions (possibly semi-finals mixed doubles)
  • 7.30 p.m.: Evening invitation for referees, ÖBV staff and tournament management

Sunday, February 1, 2026:

  • 9 a.m.: Semifinals
  • 12.30 p.m.: Intermezzo with the Cool Pingers
  • 1 p.m.: Finals
  • Award ceremonies immediately after the games
