Lugo basketball was tinged with mourning and sorrow this Friday when the news of the death of Angel Freirea person closely linked to the sport of basketball for many years and who left his mark both in his role as coach of various clubs in the province and as a talent trainer.
Freire left an important mark on the formation of young players and Galician basketball players. Especially important was the work he developed in the CB Ensino youth team, one of the most emblematic clubs in the history of this sport in Lugo and which currently plays in the Endesa Women’s League, the highest category of Spanish basketball.
His legacy, beyond the results
His legacy and impact goes beyond the resultssince it always focused on the transmission of values and technical foundations to new generations, contributing to consolidating Lugo as a basketball training center.
As a player, among other clubs, he played in el Students from Lugo and at CB Chantadaalthough his work is more recognized for his training work, as mentioned, his experience in professional basketball, which includes stages with CB Breogán, gave him a valuable perspective for his work in the lower categories.
