Even if there was no photo between Algeria and Nigeria as Victor Osimhen’s teammates seemed superior physically and in the game, an arbitration controversy still broke out during the quarter-final of the CAN this Saturday.
While the Fennecs were on the attack in the 12th minute of play on the right side, Farès Chaïbi doubled very precisely before attempting a cross which was deflected by the hand of Junior Ajayi in his area.
Even if the Nigerian’s arm seemed to be detached from the body, the referee of the match, the Senegalese Issa Sy, did not whistle and was not even called by the VAR.
A situation which will inevitably get people talking and which could have changed the face of the match, even if Algeria ultimately logically lost (on goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams). The Algerians did not target any of their three shots during the game and their collective performance proved to be quite poor.
Note that the winner of this meeting will face Morocco, which defeated Cameroon the day before by showing a very convincing face (2-0), in the semi-finals.
