Alessandro Tiberti, journalist and historic face of Rai Sport, one of the most popular figures in Italian sports journalism, has passed away at the age of 61. His death, which occurred after a long illness, aroused deep emotion in the world of information and basketball, a discipline to which he had dedicated countless reports and commentary, always with competence and passion.
In a note, Rai expressed “profound sadness for the loss of a journalist of great professional ability and human depth”, remembering Tiberti as “an example of journalism to which we continue to refer”. The company is close to his family “with affection and gratitude, for the dedication and quality with which he has told the sport for over thirty years”.
Even the world of basketball wanted to pay homage to the journalist. The president of the Italian Basketball Federation, Giovanni Petrucci, expressed “personal and Italian basketball condolences”, underlining “Tiberti’s great professionalism and competence, combined with a natural friendliness and elegance in his manners and behaviour”. The FIP also recalled how, before joining Rai, Tiberti had collaborated with the federal press office in Italy and abroad, demonstrating his passion for the ball ever since.
Tiberti leaves behind two children, Lavinia and Gabriele.
