Ajax Transfer: Unexpected Deal Shocks Fans

We have been reading for more than half a year now that Ajax is missing leaders. A leader in midfield. Several leaders in the selection. But if you let go of one of the leaders who are still there…

The Ajax playing group seems ‘not-amused’ about the departure of Remko Pasveer

The fact that Remko Pasveer would leave for Heracles Almelo in January was not on the ‘transfer bingo card’ in Amsterdam, although the signs were there when the Eredivisie top club suddenly reported to FC Dallas for Maarten Paes.

Because Ajax has not yet received its desired number six with leadership qualities, a new problem threatens to arise. Lentin Goodijk van Football International knows this all too well: “Pasveer can really make a difference in his management from the back. He was really very important in his coaching and as a leader figure. He corrected players, but also boosted them. On the field he was constantly busy positioning players. He is a goalkeeper who prevents problems before they arise.”

“It’s a shame of course”

Even the playing group of the Amsterdam team was surprised by the news, as can be seen from Davy Klaassen’s reaction to the veteran’s departure: “It is a great shame, of course. Besides the fact that he is a friend of mine, it is also a shame for the selection. He is important when he is on the field, at training and in the dressing room. I will miss him anyway, but I also really wish him as a person.”

Another leader less in our capital… “There is indeed another gap, but then there are new boys who have to step up. I also think that the management is looking for boys who can fill that gap.”

Unless someone is brought in, but the question is whether Klaassen has much hope in that regard: “I have seen few boys walk in, to be honest. But it is not ready yet. Let’s wait until the end. I have little influence on it myself. I have not yet spoken to Jordi Cruijff, but I have confidence that good things are being done. Scouting myself? I don’t have that much time.”

The midfielder wants to end on a positive note: there are younger players who are now taking responsibility in the Johan Cruijff ArenA: “You can certainly see that. Youri Baas does that, Mika Godts wants to take on that role. These are boys who would like to take a step in that. That is also very good.”

Crazy indeed?
