Carter Copus Secures Esports Scholarship at Northwood University

USA Baseball announced that Carter «Compass» Copus has secured a varsity collegiate esports scholarship to compete for the Northwood University esports program in Midland, Michigan. Copus enters the collegiate ranks following a 2025 competitive cycle where he captured the USA eBaseball finals title and placed third at the WBSC eBaseball Series World Finals.

First Collegiate Esports Scholar in USA Baseball History

The scholarship marks a milestone for the national governing body, establishing Copus as the first esports participant representing USA Baseball to secure a university scholarship in the discipline. As a veteran competitor in WBSC eBaseball™: POWER PROS, Copus has competed in the past two editions of the WBSC eBaseball Series.

Northwood University Program Pedigree

Founded in 2019, Northwood Esports has established itself as a collegiate powerhouse. The program in Midland has claimed 26 national championships across more than 10 game titles, offering student-athletes structured pathways to compete at the highest level of national collegiate competition.

Transition to eBaseball™: PRO SPIRIT and New Global Alliances

Copus enters the collegiate system amid a broader competitive transition for the sport. In January 2026, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the cessation of eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS, pivoting the WBSC eBaseball Series toward eBaseball™: PRO SPIRIT, a new baseball title developed by WBSC partner Konami.

To support the expanded ecosystem, the WBSC announced a strategic alliance on June 30, 2026, designating Challengermode as the Official Platform of the WBSC eBaseball Series. The digital infrastructure introduces expanded avenues for sanctioned tournaments, the WBSC eBaseball World Ranking, and qualification pathways for international competition.

Upcoming World Finals in Raleigh

USA Baseball will host the WBSC eBaseball Series World Finals in Raleigh, North Carolina. The tournament is scheduled for November 14 and 15, 2026.
