Ajax hopes that the obligation to purchase Chuba Akpom will be lifted at the end of the season. That will happen if Ipswich Town are promoted to the Premier League. The people of Amsterdam are reportedly allowed to add around eight million euros.
The Tractor Boys currently occupy third place in the Championship rankings. Moreover, Kieran McKenna’s team has a game in hand. If they win, they will climb over number two Middlesbrough.
If Ipswich Town holds on to second place until the end of the season, it will be promoted directly to the Premier League. If that doesn’t work, the team can also get a promotion ticket through the play-offs.
Ajax can save a nice amount of money if Ipswich Town is promoted: about eight million euros, that is. But, as financial expert and Ajax watcher José de la Verde emphasizes on X, even more salary budget will become available for the people of the capital.
“Die fee of eight million euros) ensures that Ajax breaks even with Akpom; no transfer profit or loss,” he indicates. “But the amount of the sum is not even important.”
“The point is that with every sale his salary and depreciation are released,” he points out. “There is then between twelve and fourteen million euros in transfer budget and three million euros in salary space.”
Ajax may then be able to reinvest that amount in new players. In the winter window, the current number three of the Eredivisie is looking for a new left back and a new number ‘six’.
