(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Myung-eon = Badminton’s ‘world’s best’ Se-young Ahn (Samsung Life Insurance) advanced straight to the finals of the Malaysia Open after her ‘difficult enemy’ Chen Yu-fei (China, 4th place) withdrew.
Ahn Se-young, ranked No. 1 in the women’s singles world rankings, was scheduled to face Chen Yu-fei in the semifinals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 1000 Malaysia Open held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 10th.
However, according to the BWF official website, as Chen Yu-fei withdrew due to injury ahead of the game, Ahn Se-young won a ticket to the finals without wasting physical strength.
The tight match between the two players with a record of 14 wins and 14 losses was canceled, but Ahn Se-young was able to avoid the most burdensome opponent ahead of the finals.
Chen Yufei is a difficult opponent who hindered Ahn Se-young in the semifinals of last year’s World Championships, preventing her from winning the tournament for the second time in a row.
Ahn Se-young will meet the winner of either Wang Ziyi (China, 2nd place) or Pusala Sindhu (India, 18th place) in the final.
Ahn Se-young has an overwhelming record against Wang Ziyi with a total of 16 wins and 4 losses, and won all eight times last year.
Even against Sindhu, he is ahead with 8 wins in all his matches.
Ahn Se-young, who reached the top of this competition in 2024 and 2025, will now achieve the milestone of winning three consecutive competitions if she passes the final.
