ADO Den Haag Women has immediately strengthened its selection with the arrival of Yuna Sonoda. The 26-year-old Japanese midfielder comes over from Chifure AS Elfen Saitama and signed a contract with the club last week and will play for the Hague team at least until the end of the season. After this season, we will look to the future together. Both Sonoda and the club have expressed the intention to continue working together for a longer period of time. Sonoda is eligible to play and will therefore immediately be part of the match selection against NAC Breda tomorrow.
Sonoda started her career with Albirex Niigata Ladies and made her top-level debut in Japan on September 12, 2021. She then played for Chifure AS Elfen Saitama, which also plays in the WE League, the top division of women’s football in Japan. There she further developed into a versatile and technically skilled midfielder and grew into one of the strong players.
Nangila van Eyck, technical manager for women’s football at ADO Den Haag: “Yuna has been recruited by us as an attacking midfielder, but she also has experience in other positions in midfield. She is technically strong and excellent in combination. We expect her to collaborate with our attackers and hopefully also score goals. In addition, Yuna brings a lot of experience and she is one of the older players within our selection. We hope that her presence can provide the necessary balance.”
Yuna Sonoda about her first foreign adventure: “The move to the Netherlands was a conscious choice for me. I wanted to go abroad to further develop myself, not only as a football player, but also as a person. I have been well received by the team and staff and I look forward to training with them, playing matches and contributing to ADO Den Haag Women.”
