Corridors are public spaces that connect thousands of households and are also a window that reflects urban civilization. In Yaojiang Jingyuan Community, Lizhou Street, ordinary corridors are quietly transforming into “civilized living rooms” shared by neighbors, which not only beautifies the living environment, but also brings a series of heart-warming community stories.

Yesterday morning, retired aunt Wang Yajun carried a kettle and carefully watered the flowers and plants in the shared flower stand in the corridor as usual. Under her careful care, all kinds of green plants are full of vitality. “The corridors are now neat and beautiful, and a lot of facilities have been added, making life much more convenient.” Aunt Wang pointed to the layout of the corridors with a smile, her words full of joy.

The transformation of the corridors described by Aunt Wang is the result of this year’s “Civilized Flowers Blooming and Fragrance Filling the Buildings” campaign carried out by Yaojiang Jingyuan Community. In April this year, with the guidance and support of Baiyun Community, the community built two distinctive civilized corridors. So far, among the 8 units in the 4 residential buildings in the community, 4 unique civilized corridors have been built: some focus on active fitness, with badminton rackets, skipping ropes and other equipment hung on the walls to facilitate residents’ exercise and leisure; some strive to create “child-friendly” spaces and set up picture book reading corners and handicraft display areas, becoming a happy world for children; some corridors are equipped with book corners, shared umbrellas and convenient service boxes, showing humanistic care in every detail.

The creation of a civilized atmosphere cannot be achieved overnight, but needs to be rooted in the harmonious atmosphere of the community and the residents’ spontaneous enthusiasm for co-construction. As early as the beginning of this year, the Yaojiang Jingyuan Community Owners Committee actively listened to public opinions and used public revenue to invest nearly 160,000 yuan to build a plastic sports field and fitness trail on the open space. This not only ignited the residents’ enthusiasm for fitness, but also created a warm bond for neighbors to walk, chat and enhance their relationship.

While the community’s hardware facilities are being improved, “soft services” and community culture are also being nourished simultaneously. In April this year, a unique sports meeting for retired workers was held at the newly built plastic sports ground in the community. Baduanjin, fun bowling and other projects rejuvenated the elderly in the community and kept them laughing. In midsummer, as the “Zhejiang BA” started in full swing, the community cleverly used the fitness venue and set up a large screen to create a lively second live viewing area. The residents waved their fans and cheered for the wonderful goal. The passion of the game and the friendship between the neighbors were fully integrated here.

From caring for a flower, to utilizing a corner, to gathering at an event, scenes of heart-warming stories are taking place inside and outside the corridors of Yaojiang Jingyuan. These subtle details not only polish the foundation of a civilized city, but also allow the traditional virtues of neighbors and family members to take root and bloom in modern communities.
