The tributes don’t stop. Since the death of Jean-Louis Gasset, which occurred this Friday, December 26 at the age of 72, the world of football has multiplied messages and attention to the French technician and his loved ones. This Saturday, Will Still was particularly moved by the disappearance of the former Ivory Coast coach.
“To our lunar red card,” he said on Instagram. The former RC Lens coach wanted to recall a rather crazy scene that the two men experienced when they were coaching in Ligue 1. The two men were sent off during a Montpellier-Lens in January 2025 after getting into a fight while the official Bastien Dechepy was watching the VAR.
The two men ended up reconciling and hugging each other, but the damage was done: the referee drew a red card to each side despite protests from both camps.
“It’s normal that there are words between the two benches”
“You are next to me and you say to yourself Shut your mouth each other, outside,” explained Bastien Dechepy. “Don’t lose control,” replied Jean-Louis Gasset, supported by his Belgian counterpart: “What are you seriously doing? No kidding. »
“You also have to understand, it’s a football match, there are emotions. Mr Gasset is under pressure because he wants to try to save Montpellier, we are under pressure because we want to play in Europe… It’s normal for the players to insult each other on the pitch, it’s normal for there to be words between the two benches. We all want to win, to be competitive, but we have to know how to understand it and not get carried away with boxes,” Will Still, whose team finally won 2-0, said at a press conference.
The two coaches were sanctioned with a fixed match for the Belgian and two matches, one of which was suspended for the Frenchman, by the LFP disciplinary committee. An altercation revealing what Jean-Louis Gasset was: passionate to the end of the bench.
