BRATISLAVA – Slovan Bratislava fans booed home team player Alasana Yirajang in Thursday’s Conference League match.
Shipowner “white” Vladimír Weiss st. after the final match in the league phase, he also touched on the relationship with the fans and the criticism directed at Yirajang, who came on in the 54th minute in place of the injured Marko Tolic.
The Gambian footballer had to hear a whistle at his address almost every time he touched the ball. It was probably the reaction of the spectators to the events before last week’s match with Žilina, when the Slovan coach removed three legionnaires from the squad, including Yirajang, because they did not follow the rules and either came later or did not come to the joint lunch at all.
“We have to respect the fans, criticism belongs to football. The players have to learn where the boundaries are. The discipline has to be the same for everyone. I’m sorry for what happened today. The fans simply gave it back to him. It shouldn’t happen. We have to come out of this situation somehow sensibly,” Weiss said in the postgame press conference.
Slovan finally won Thursday’s match over Häcken 1:0. None of the teams could advance to the playoffs, the “Whites” ended the competition with six points, their opponent with three.
