The first half of Halkbank Türkiye Women’s Basketball League ended with the matches played yesterday. Representing our city in the league, Mersin Gençlerbirliği and Seçil Kauçuk Mersin Basketball gained momentum and started to rise after their ups and downs performances in the first weeks.
Finding great momentum, Mersin Gençlerbirliği caught a 6-match winning streak. Our representative’s winning streak ended against Kırklareli Municipality Kırklareli Science, one of the strongest teams in the league. Our representative lost 75-72 away to its opponent in the last match of the first half. Mersin Gençlerbirliği would have finished the league in 3rd place if they had won the match. Even though it was its first year in the league, Mersin Gençlerbirliği completed the half in the play-off line and showed great success.
Seçil Kauçuk Mersin Basketball started the league by losing to Mersin Gençlerbirliği. After suffering consecutive defeats, Mersin Basketball had a hard time recovering. After recovering, our representative had a 4-game winning streak and managed to advance to the play-off line in a short time. Then, the winning streak of our representative ended when they lost to Darıca Basket Feneri. Although Mersin Basketball had a two-game winning streak afterwards, it lost 72-73 to Bodrum Basketball in the last match of the first half.
Our representatives, who lost their last matches, completed the first half in the play-off line. Our representatives will face each other in the derby in the first match of the second half.
