Stan Wawrinka has declared 2026 to be his last as a tennis professional. The Swiss will leave the big tennis stage and play his last match on the tour at the age of 41.
Wawrinka’s career is directly linked to the Big3 era. The former world number three corresponds to the group of players who are said to have had much more success without Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. But “Stan the Man” is one of the few players who can boast at least one Grand Slam title on their resume. With the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and the US Open, the Lausanne-born professional won three of the four majors.
Murray, Berdych and Tsonga on par with Stan
Stan Wawrinka is also one of the small group that was able to walk off the court victorious against all three big names at the Grand Slams. Only Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga belong to this elite circle.
An argument for what incredible talent the Swiss was able to exploit on the tour. In recent years, Wawrinka played a lot on the Challenger Tour and lived off his good name, which in turn ensured numerous wildcards in the main draw at Grand Slams and on the ATP Tour.
With the departure of Stan Wawrinka, a big name is leaving the stage, who particularly scored points with the attribute of his own silence.
