The Municipal Vox Group in the Oviedo City Council reiterated this Wednesday their request for the “Niké, Women and Sports” Awards to limit participation exclusively to women according to their biological sex. The training accuses the local government of not modifying the rules of the contest, despite the request registered in February, and considers that the current regulations, which allow people who identify as women to attend without reference to biological sex, “open the door to situations that harm athletes.”

Each award is endowed with 1,750 euros, a trophy and accrediting diploma.
In its 2025 edition, the awards will recognize the Badminton Oviedo as best sports club; to Ruth Moll Marqués (PCM Team Oviedo) as a female athlete; to Cecilia González Merino (Oviedo Rugby Club) for the promotion of sport; and the journalist Carmen Menendez Fernandez as a prominent means of communication.
