Jamie Carragher defend Micky van de Ven the tackler Alexander Isak until injured. Carragher felt that what happened was just a matter of bad luck.
Isak suffered an injury after scoring a goal against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend in the Premier League. He was fouled by Micky van de Ven and lay for several minutes before being helped off the pitch by medical staff.
The Liverpool striker then had to be absent for a long time. The former Newcastle Unite player has undergone surgery to recover.

“I put myself in Van de Ven’s position and it was a tackle I probably would have made too. He tried to block it, only his follow-up movement wasn’t quite right,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He had to make that tackle. You can’t let a striker shoot straight away in that situation. This is really bad luck for Isak,” emphasized the former Liverpool player.
Liverpool did not provide an estimate for how long Isak will be sidelined. Surgery on fibula fractures is expected to take months, not weeks, before full rehabilitation.
“After diagnosis, surgery was completed today, Wednesday (23/12/2025) early morning WIB, for an ankle injury which included a fibula fracture,” read a Liverpool statement.
