The Alavés motor is in mourning for the death of the trials pilot Francisco Javier Aldecoa Echano (1960), one of the figures most committed to … his sport. The man from Vitoria celebrated half a century of uninterrupted license in 2025, a dedication to the motorcycle that led him to be known in many corners of Spain. A prostate operation had forced him to take a break from competition in the second part of the year. The national champion in 2016, 2018 and 2019 in the pre-80 category was preparing his return when this Monday he suffered a devastating heart attack at the age of 65.
The mourning spread quickly in the trial scene throughout the country. Javier Aldecoa will be remembered as one of the drivers most passionate about his sport and respected for his skill and sportsmanship among all his teammates in the paddock. Motor fever crept into his family very soon. His brother Carlos opted for rallies, while Javier opted for two wheels. In 1976 he began competing as an amateur rider, and left a long career behind him as a trial rider.
President and founder in 2007 of the Moto Club +Gas de Montaña Alavesa, Aldecoa was one of the promoters of classic trials in Euskadi. In the Two Days of the Maeztu Classic Trial he was usually the rival to beat and was always very involved in its organization. In this 2025 edition, while still recovering from the operation, he served as a judge and helped in everything he could for the development of the test.
His results also include the Spanish Classic Trial Cup in 2009, in the Trialeros (Green) category, driving an Aprilia TX300. Although his predilection has always been in the pre-80s, which consists of competing with classic motorcycles manufactured before 1980. The Bultaco Sherpa was Aldecoa’s favorite, which leaves a deep memory in Vitoria and the rest of the Territory.
