Two minutes later the Nerazzurri created their first clear chance: Lavelli struck a first-time shot inside the area from a good position, but Gori reacted sharply to make the save. Inter continued to push for the opener and, in the 39th minute, it was again Topalovic who went close, though his effort failed to hit the target. After three minutes of added time, the first half ended goalless, with the deadlock firmly intact.
