BCL WEEK 5: BNEİ HERZLIYA 82_81 TOFAŞ BURSA
Even though our TOFAŞ Basketball Team lost 82-81 away to the Israeli representative Bnei Penlink Herzliya in the 5th week match of the Basketball Champions League Group D, they guaranteed the play-inn place with the advantage of double goal difference.
In the 5th week of Basketball Champions League Group D, TOFAŞ faced away against Israeli representative Bnei Penlink Herzliya. The Blue Greens started the match played at the Víceúčelová Hala Opava hall in Opava, Czech Republic, with Alex Perez, Hugo Besson, Furkan Korkmaz, Yiğitcan Saybir and Lynn Kidd, and scored their first basket with Yiğitcan Saybir. Bursa team, which went on a 9-0 streak with the points of Furkan Korkmaz and Hugo Besson, responded to the opponent’s points with Furkan Korkmaz, Alex Perez and Yiğitcan Saybir after the break, and closed the first quarter ahead 18-20 with the baskets of Özgür Cengiz and Tolga Geçim.
The home team started the second period with consecutive points and gained a 23-21 advantage in the 11th minute. TOFAŞ Basketball Team regained the lead with Captain Tolga’s three-pointer and made the score 37-37 at 16.30 with the points scored by Furkan Korkmaz and Yiğitcan Saybir duo. At the end of the quarter, the Blue-Green team scored points with Maxwell Lewis and Alex Perez and entered the locker room with a score of 42-42.
Starting the third period with Hugo Besson’s three-pointer, TOFAŞ increased the difference to double digits at 26.30 with points from Hugo Besson, Alex Perez, Yiğitcan Saybir and Lynn Kidd: 48-59. Hugo Besson, Yiğitcan Saybir and Isaiah Whaley’s points increased the difference to 14 (51-65) in the 28th minute, and although Herzliya had a 9-0 streak at the end of the quarter, TOFAŞ entered the last quarter with a 60-65 advantage.
Starting the fourth period with Tolga Geçim’s three-pointer, TOFAŞ Baskeball Team could not prevent the opponent’s points and the score was equalized in the 34th minute: 68-68. Yiğitcan Saybir’s free throws put an end to the opponent’s 8-0 streak. The Bursa team, which continued to respond to the opponent’s points with Yiğitcan Saybir, was ahead 80-81 with 8 seconds left with the points of Lynn Kidd, Yiğitcan Saybir and Furkan Korkmaz, and although they lost 82-81 with a last-second basket from the court, they secured the play-inn by taking the double goal difference advantage.
Yiğitcan Saybir was the team’s top scorer with 28 points for TOFAŞ against Herzliya; Furkan Korkmaz 14 points; Hugo Besson scored 11 points. Joe Thomasson and Marek Blazevic were not in the squad because they were injured.
TOFAŞ Basketball Team, which is guaranteed to play in the play-in qualifying round with this result, will play its last match in the Basketball Champions League Group D against the Italian representative Trapani Shark on Tuesday, December 16, at 20.30. The Blue Greens will finish the group in second place, whether they win this match or lose by a maximum of 2 points.
