Tommy Haas, Mischa Zverev and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are also further along.
New. Exciting. Exciting. And really good sport. The Ischgl Trophy 2025 got off to a brilliant start. Top tennis in an international winter sports hot spot. This has never happened before. On Friday we flew spectacularly Ischgl Tennis Dome the first balls over the net. The six games thrilled players and spectators alike. The semi-finals will now play on Saturday Dominic Thiem, Tommy Haas, Mischa Zverev and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a place in the final on Sunday.
“We want to put on a great show,” promised Dominic Thiem. And kept his word. The winner of the US Open 2020, the Austrian tennis hero of recent years, took advantage of the home advantage and moved into the semi-finals. The decisive factor was his dramatic 7:6 triumph against Feliciano Lopez. Thiem had to fend off two match points before defeating the Spaniard 12:10 in the match tiebreak. Afterwards, the duel with Mischa Zverev was about winning the group. Thiem secured this with his 6:3 win. Zverev had previously won 6-4 over Lopez and secured his semi-final ticket.
Thiem, Tsonga, Haas, Zverev. So this quartet is still in the running for the Ischgl Trophy. A strong competition – and very motivated. How motivated was evident even before the first rally – in the parade of the stars! Surrounded by enthusiastic children, the professionals posed for photos in a great mood, had small talk and signed autographs. In the middle was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The charismatic Frenchman expressed his excitement: “It’s great that I can be here.” And he suspected that he would be challenged. After defeating Stefan Koubek 6:4, he faced Tommy Haas. “Tommy trains like a crazy person every day,” Tsonga said. In fact, Haas won 6:3 after also putting Stefan Koubek in his place (6:4). It’s impressive how fit and focused Haas is at the Ischgl Trophy presented. By the way, also on the skis. So before his games he spent a lot of time on the slopes around Ischgl. But he also trained very concentratedly on the tennis court. Haas: “If I compete somewhere, then I want to win.” So he reaches for it Ischgl Trophy.
But Lopez and Koubek, who missed the semi-finals as third in the group, also offer top tennis action on Saturday.
Because with Daniela Hantuchova (with Lopez) and Iva Majoli (with Koubek) two long-time absolute top stars of women’s tennis will be competing at their side for the mixed hit! The Slovakian Hantuchova won four Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles, one each at the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open between 2001 and 2005. The Croatian Majoli triumphed in singles at the French Open in 1997.
This is how it will be played on Saturday:
3 p.m: First semi-final: Tommy Haas – Mischa Zverev
4.30 p.m.: Second semi-final: Dominic Thiem – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
6 p.m.: Mixed Show Match: Hantuchova/Lopez – Majoli/Koubek
In short: a great tennis Saturday is coming up at the Ischgl Tennis Dome!
