Tennis Northern League: TCO Ladies 30 – Hameln Draw 3:3

It definitely won’t be a nerve-wracking fight to stay in the league for the ladies 30 of TC Osterholz-Scharmbeck this indoor season. Since TC Großensee-Trittau, a competitor, had already withdrawn from the Northern Tennis League before the start of the season, the promoted team was basically able to play freely on the first match day.

In the performance-based 3:3 in our own hall against DT Hameln, captain Sandra Meyerdierks was still noticeable in the top singles a certain tension. Her arm didn’t seem as loose as usual. This resulted in problems with the serve and an unexpectedly high error rate. Meyerdierks was already behind 4:6 and 4:5 in the singles when she found her way back into the game with a break at the last moment. In the match tiebreak she finally scored five points in a row with the score at 5:5.

In second position, Kathrin Plotzke often lacked the necessary spin in her shots. As a result, their groundstrokes got stuck in the net more often. Plotzke’s very self-confident opponent used this to achieve a confident two-set win. Sandra Stelling’s match, however, was characterized by long rallies. Her opponent generally used flat punches and occasionally used an awkward slice. For a long time, Stelling found a good mix of patience and determination. At 6:4 and 5:3 she missed a match point, whereupon the encounter turned sour and the TCO player made a few too many unforced errors in the final phase.

Jule Juschkat equalized for the hosts to make it 2-2 after the singles. Her opponent’s balls often fell short, which is why Juschkat was able to clearly dominate the duel. She also survived a weaker phase in the second round, when Juschkat briefly became a little more defensive and uncertain. There was no more tension in the subsequent doubles. While Jule Juschkat and Anna-Lena Kieselhorst won easily with their aggressive style of play, Sandra Meyerdierks and Kathrin Plotzke had no chance on the next court. “We simply acted too defensively and didn’t play our volleys consistently enough,” noted Sandra Meyerdierks.
