Behind the defeat at Dunkirk, the playing time statistics reveal a truth: ASSE rotates a lot, too much perhaps, without managing to establish a clear hierarchy. A symptom that weighs on the game as well as on the results.
By analyzing the cumulative playing time since August, a truth jumps out within the ASSE squad: Mickaël Nadé is the only truly unbreakable player in the Horneland project. The central defender played all 18 matches played by ASSE, a symbol of rare reliability and total confidence from the staff. However, to date, it is this sector that is being singled out. This is certainly due to a lost balance since Chico Lamba’s injury.
Just behind him, Larsonneur, Tardieu and Annan make up a spine used continuously. But this stability, as precious as it is, masks a much more worrying phenomenon.
A massive rotation which prevents ASSE from settling
Because beyond these frameworks, ASSE fails to achieve real continuity. Offensive animation is a constant work in progress. Davitashvili plays, then disappears. Old brand, certainly against an R3, but does not settle. Worse, he seems to represent a defensive solution in the absence of Annan, now injured. Cardona grabs, progresses, scores, but struggles to offer consistency. Even Ferreira, used regularly, was unable to lock down his place. The fault perhaps lies in its ability to cost the Greens points…
Result: the offensive lines constantly change, automatisms do not arise, and the absence of a typical team is felt even in the fluidity of the game. However, Horneland is a master in terms of stability. Ultimately, it is injuries or suspensions that dictate the turnover of this team, and sometimes, more rarely, real sporting choices.
Young people do not overthrow the hierarchy, Stassin remains at the dock
Horneland has successfully integrated several players from the center of ASSE: El Jamali, Gadegbeku, Eymard… All are progressing, all are gaining, but none is yet shaking up the status quo. Their rise in power is real, but still too timid to provoke a recomposition of the forces in place.
Among the most problematic situations, that of Lucas Stassin attracts attention. Announced as a major pawn in the attack, the Belgian is today only the 14th most used player in the squad, with 736 minutes of play. Many (too many) physical problems handicap the Belgian striker who (almost) no longer hides his desires elsewhere.
A rich but unstable workforce: the Saint-Etienne paradox
ASSE undoubtedly has one of the deepest squads in Ligue 2. But depth is not enough: continuity, benchmarks, repetition of the same automatisms are missing.
Horneland searches, adjusts, composes. But by compensating for injuries and testing different combinations, the team is struggling to build a lasting offensive identity. As the Greens enter a key period in the calendar, the challenge is to find a formula that works. Powered by its indestructible 433, the solution should not come through a tactical revolution, but more through the presence of indisputable players on the pitch. But, are there any…?
