Damasco, 14 dic (SANA) The Al-Thawra and Barada teams inaugurated the Syrian Women’s Basketball League today with resounding victories against Salmiya and Al-Ashrafiya, respectively, in matches played at the Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in this capital.
On the opening day, corresponding to the South Group, Al-Thawra easily surpassed Salmiya with a score of 91-31, while Barada had no difficulties in beating Al-Ashrafiya by 85-29, making its aspirations clear from the beginning of the competition.
The competition brings together nine teams, distributed into two groups. The North Group is made up of Al-Ahli Aleppo, Al-Shabab, Al-Hurriya and Huteen, while the South Group is made up of Al-Wahda, Al-Thawra, Barada, Al-Ashrafiya and Salmiya.
According to the competition system, the first phase will be played under the league format with two rounds, home and away, after which the teams will be classified according to their position in the table.
In the second phase, corresponding to the quarterfinals, the second in the South Group will face the third in the North Group, and the second in the North Group will play against the third in the South Group, in a best-of-three series.
The leaders of each group at the end of the first round will directly enter the semifinals, in search of the Syrian women’s basketball national title.
