The Pittsburgh Steelers (8-6) were very hot on Sunday in their duel against the Detroit Lions (8-7).
Aaron Rodgers and his gang won 29 to 24, thus signing a third consecutive victory. Detroit suffers a second consecutive loss.
Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown at the goal gate who then gave him the ball via a lateral. Goff finished with the touchdown, but that whole comeback fell through due to a penalty called on Brown for interference.
The officials talked for a while on the field before announcing their decision, much to the dismay of the crowd. The penalty turned out to be the last play of the match.
“In my opinion, it was a bad call by the officials,” Goff said simply.
A few plays before, Goff had joined Brown for the major, but once again, a penalty spoiled the Lions’ push. Isaac TeSlaa was caught for an obstructive gesture.
With this victory, Pittsburgh is assured of finishing with a record above .500 for the 19th straight season under Mike Tomlin.
The Lions’ loss assured the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers a playoff berth.
Detroit’s only chance to participate now is if the Green Bay Packers lose their last two games and the Lions win their last two duels against the Minnesota Vikings and the Bears.
“We know the percentages,” said Goff, who threw two of his three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. We know we are not eliminated. We know that some things have to work out in our favor. »
Jaylen Warren stood out on offense for the Steelers. The running back scored two rushing touchdowns for 45 yards in the fourth quarter. He finished with a career-high 143 yards, which gave him a 230-15 edge in rushing yards.
Goff finished the game with three touchdown passes including two in the final quarter to Kalif Raymond and Jahmyr Gibbs. The one at TeSlaa in the second quarter was his first of the match. He completed 34 of his 54 passes for gains of 364 yards.
Rodgers threw for 266 air yards and completed 27 passes on his 41 attempts.
“We’ve been playing playoff football for three weeks,” Rodgers said.
“I am extremely grateful to my players and for the fighting spirit they showed, individually and collectively,” said Mike Tomlin. We certainly haven’t been perfect, we’ve faced a lot of adversity, some of it our own fault. But they didn’t give up and that’s what is needed at this stage of the season. »
