For Jannik Sinner the season starts at the Australian Open

Shortly before the start of the 2026 tennis season, Jannik Sinner recharged his batteries for the upcoming tasks in his home town of Sesto. The world number two, who completed the first part of his season preparation in Dubai, returned to South Tyrol over Christmas and pursued one of his great passions there.

As pictures on social media show, Sinner was on the local ski slopes at Christmas. The 24-year-old, who served as the face of the Volunteers campaign in the run-up to the 2026 Olympic Games, has been closely linked to skiing since his childhood: in 2008 he even became the Italian giant slalom champion in his age group.

Top favorite at the Australian Open

Sinner’s stay in South Tyrol was only short-lived, as he has been back in his adopted home of Monte-Carlo since December 26th. The four-time Grand Slam winner will complete the second part of his preparation there and celebrate New Year’s Eve before the start of the new season.

On January 10th, Sinner will play a show match against world number one Carlos Alcaraz in Seoul. Things will get really serious for the Italian for the first time from January 18th at the Australian Open. Sinner starts in Melbourne as the two-time defending champion and top favorite.
