Senna van den Beukel: European Competition Debut

The 16-year-old player from VELO Badminton in Wateringen, who has also been a youth coach at Quintus Badminton in Kwintsheul since this year, played the boys’ doubles in the team tournament with Jordy Haase from Almere. Slovakia won, but Denmark lost and also Belgium, after a true thriller, 21-19, 28-30 and 21-19.

The team tournament turned out to be a nice warm-up. In the individual tournament that was played afterwards, Senna reached the 3rd round in the mixed doubles with Mette Kool from Haarlem. In the boys’ doubles with Jordy Haase again, the 3rd round was also the final station.

Dutch badminton youth cannot currently compete with top European countries such as Denmark and France. NOC*NSF scaled back the training facilities for Badminton Netherlands in Papendal last year. However, with the support of the Westland Young Talent Foundation, Senna, as a talented Westlander, is given the opportunity to continue to develop.
