Badminton: Ee Wei-Pei Kee & SEA Games Final Berth

PETALING JAYA: The battle for a spot in the final of the women’s team badminton event at the SEA Games Thailand between Malaysia and Indonesia on Monday (Dec 8) promises to be thrilling, especially with mixed doubles world champion Toh Ee Wei set to feature.

Ee Wei will make her return as a women’s doubles player, forming a scratch pair with Go Pei Kee as the second doubles.

They are scheduled to take on Febriana Kusuma-Meilysa Puspitasari.

Although primarily a mixed doubles player, Ee Wei is no stranger to women’s doubles, having partnered Yap Ling to help Melaka clinch the gold medal at the 2022 Malaysia Games (Sukma).

She also gained valuable experience during her junior days seven years ago, finishing as runner-up with Pearly Tan at the 2018 World Junior Championships in Markham, Canada.

The tie will open with women’s singles player K. Letshanaa taking on world No. 7 Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah will then contest the first women’s doubles match against Rachel Rose and Febi Setianingrum.

Wong Ling Ching will play the second singles and is expected to meet world No. 10 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Siti Zulaikha Azmi has been named as the third singles and will step in if the tie goes the distance. She is set to face Mutiara Puspitasari.

The last time the national women’s team reached the SEA Games final was 10 years ago, at the 2015 edition in Singapore.
