Sant Josep Festival: Traditions & Celebrations

Marc and Joan Guasch Orvay (Club Bádminton Es Vedrà), in the men’s category, and Nur Gómez (Club Tir with Arc Es Cubells), in the women’s category, were yesterday named best athletes in Sant Josep. The City Council, through the Department of Sports, Youth and Transparency, yesterday held the Sant Josep en Forma 2025 Awards gala at the Caló de s’Oli Auditorium with the aim of recognizing the effort, dedication and achievements of the most outstanding athletes, teams and clubs in the municipality.
Marc and Joan finished third in the Spanish Under-19 Doubles Championship. For her part, Gómez was proclaimed runner-up in the European Youth Cup for compound bow and finished fourth in the World Championship.

The award for best club went to Club Natació Sant Josep, which for the third consecutive season had at least one team in each category of the Balearic League and for its promotion of water polo. The award for best team went to the Santjosep.net women’s compound bow team, which won bronze in the Spanish club championship.

Servicios Palau was chosen as the best sponsoring entity for its collaboration and help in promoting grassroots sports in the municipality. During the ceremony, two special mentions were also awarded, one for the Cala de Bou Petanque Club, which is celebrating its silver anniversary, and another for the Civil Protection Volunteer Group of Sant Josep for its selfless collaboration in the sports events carried out in the municipality.

Vicent Roig, mayor of Sant Josep, highlighted the value and trajectory of the municipality’s athletes. «It is an honor to meet again to celebrate what best defines us as a community: shared effort, improvement and the ability to build a community through sport. We come to recognize 27 different stories, but all with a common thread: the resignation, perseverance and generosity behind each training and each competition,” he indicated.

In addition, the mayor also wanted to highlight the dedication of all the clubs and the environment that accompanies the athletes. «Families, coaches and volunteers: this recognition is also yours. The hours of accompaniment, the silent resignations and the trust they place in their athletes are what allows these young people and veterans to dream and get to where they have arrived,” he highlighted.

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Xicu Ribas, highlighted the community’s ability to respond to the difficulties caused by DANA. «This has been an intense and difficult year. The torrential rains put our facilities and services to the test, but the clubs and athletes demonstrated the ability to reinvent themselves and not give up. The schools of the municipality opened their doors to us so that the activity did not stop. Thank you all for making it possible,” he said.
