On December 13, aspiring young athletes had the unique possibility to train under the tutelage of Olympic medalist and former national team coach Yoo Yeonseong for badminton, and current national team coach Hyun Junghwa for table tennis. These sessions provided invaluable, hands-on instruction for elementary, middle, and high school students from the Samcheok area.
The morning badminton clinic, held at the Samcheok Gymnasium, focused on building a strong foundation. Students progressed from mastering basic movements and fundamental techniques to engaging in practice matches designed to cultivate teamwork and strategic thinking. Later that day, the Eoullim Plaza buzzed with activity as the table tennis class introduced participants to the nuances of the sport. The curriculum emphasized fundamental footwork and rally drills, offering a glimpse into the precision and skill required at a professional level.
The momentum from these successful clinics is set to continue. On December 27, Samcheok City will host basketball and dance classes, further enriching the educational offerings for its youth. The basketball session, led by the celebrated “Magic Hand” Coach Kim Seunghyun, will take place at the Kangwon National University Complex Sports Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants can expect a comprehensive training experience, covering everything from fundamental drills and tactical understanding to cooperative play.

A city official highlighted the program’s dual purpose: “this initiative is designed not only to foster the comprehensive development of our local students but also to provide valuable support for parents managing childcare responsibilities,” they stated. “we believe that the opportunity to interact with renowned athletes and professional instructors will serve as a powerful catalyst for children to explore their aspirations, consider future career paths, and grow into healthy, well-rounded individuals.”
