Breaking one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s many records is not easy. Saturday evening, Kylian Mbappé achieved the feat of equaling one: that of the greatest number of goals with Real Madrid in a calendar year, i.e. 59 achievements. The Frenchman scored the 2-0 goal against Sevilla on a penalty, not his best goal, certainly, but the record is there.
For the occasion, Mbappé celebrated his goal with the famous “Suuuiii”, in a nod to his idol. The same evening, he posted the photo on Instagram, writing: “believe in your dreams. Respect @cristiano.” The Portuguese reacted to his post by commenting two emojis: hands up and a flame, which can be interpreted as congratulations. The two men undoubtedly spoke at greater length in private, given that it was Kylian Mbappé’s birthday.

His Real Madrid teammates also congratulated him. “Wowwww kiki!!!”, reacts Vinicius. “Congratulations brother,” Bellingham said. Even one of his Barcelona rivals congratulated him, “What a player!”, commented Raphinha.
