Sport Club do Recife officially announces the hiring of coach Roger Silva, a 40-year-old professional, who has signed a contract until the end of 2026. Leão’s new coach will already be present at the squad’s presentation, scheduled for next Monday (29), at CT José de Andrade Médicis.
A former player with a beautiful history at the Club, having won titles such as the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Pernambucano as an athlete, Roger Silva has stood out in his coaching career, arriving at Sport after two consecutive accessions in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, for Athletic-MG and Londrina, respectively.
With strong words, which do not hide his motivation, Roger gave his first statements to the Red-Negro Official Website. “Very happy with this challenge. Returning to Sport is a professional achievement, a dream that became reality. It is the Club where I won my main title in my athletic career and with which my family has a strong connection. All my children are passionate and Leão fans. I know that the moment is one of reconstruction and the motivation to work and achieve our goals is huge”, he said.
Regarding his return to Ilha do Retiro, home so well known to the Leo coach, Roger went further. “I’m really looking forward to meeting the red and black fans again. I usually tell everyone that the Island is my home. It will be there, that together, with strength, work and all the mystique present, we will be able to take Sport to the place it deserves”, he concluded.
Roger Silva’s coaching staff will include assistants Renato Gheller and Eduardo Abdo, who also spent time at Leão during his time as an athlete.
