The Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly made a controversial decision ahead of their Sunday matchup against the New York Giants.
According to information reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the organization informed Maxx Crosby that he would not be used in this meeting, preferring to give him rest so that he could treat a lingering knee injury that has bothered him since October.
However, this decision would not have gone unnoticed in the locker room, and even less so with the main person concerned. Crosby, known for his intensity and leadership, would have very badly welcomed this sidelining.
The context makes the situation even more delicate: the Raiders and the Giants both have an identical record of 2-13, which puts them at the bottom of the NFL standings and puts them in the race for the very first pick in the next draft.
For Crosby, however, the prospect of improving the team’s draft position doesn’t appear to be a motivator.
Earlier this week, he made his state of mind clear, saying he had no concerns about future draft-related scenarios and that his goal remained to perform at the highest level every time he stepped on the field.
The player’s frustration would have manifested itself in a concrete way on Friday. According to FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer, Crosby left the team’s facilities, a clear sign of deep disagreement with management’s decision.
A season marked by pain and production
Despite his injury, Maxx Crosby continued to be one of the Raiders’ defensive pillars in 2023. He totaled 73 tackles, including 10 sacks, statistics that demonstrate his constant impact and determination.
It remains to be seen whether this forced break will ease tensions or if it will leave lasting marks in the relationship between the star player and the Las Vegas organization.
