The Paris St. Germain football club has to take part in the dispute Kylian Mbappé pay a fine of 60 million euros to the player. This was decided by a Paris labor court. The total reflects outstanding salaries and bonuses.
The verdict initially ends a months-long legal dispute. Mbappé had PSG sued for outstanding payments in the months of April, May and June in 2024. The French international now plays for Spanish record champions Real Madrid.
“We are satisfied with the verdict. That was to be expected when salaries were not paid,” said Mbappé’s lawyer Frederique Cassereau.
PSG accuses Mbappé of disloyalty
The court found that PSG had failed to pay Mbappé three months’ salary, an ethics bonus and a signing bonus to which he was entitled under his employment contract. These amounts were recognized as due by two decisions of the French professional football league LFP in September and October 2024. The judges said PSG had not provided a written agreement showing that Mbappé had waived his claim.
The Ligue 1 club, however, argued that Mbappé had acted disloyally by hiding his intention not to renew his contract for almost a year. This made it impossible for the club to achieve a transfer fee equal to the 180 million euros that PSG paid for its signing from AS Monaco in 2017.
The court rejected Mbappé’s lawyers’ request to convert his fixed-term contracts into a permanent employment relationship. On this basis, the French international made claims totaling 263 million euros against his former club. PSG’s counterclaims, which amounted to 440 million euros, were also completely rejected.
