Hard blow for AS Monaco. Paul Pogba, victim of left calf discomfort, is not part of the group of 21 Monegasques who will travel to Marseille to play the summit match of the 16th day of Ligue 1 on Sunday evening.
According to the Principality club, Pogba contracted this “very slight” injury during the last training session which took place this Saturday at the La Turbie performance center. As the watchword at the club regarding the world champion is “not to take risks”, he was not selected for the trip.
Pogba also embarrassed on one knee
This injury is different from that of the knee tendon which prevented him from taking part in the Champions League match between Monaco and Galatasaray (1-0) on Tuesday, a match for which he remained on the bench without ever warming up.
“He had a little tension in his tendon in one knee”, which “triggered during the warm-up”, explained his trainer Sébastien Pocognoli at a press conference on Friday.
The Belgian technician, who wanted to wait until the last training session this Saturday to find out if Pogba could be selected, therefore decided. To date, he has played around thirty minutes in Ligue 1 with Monaco, in three matches: in Rennes (1-4), against Paris SG (1-0) and in Brest (0-1).
Pocognoli, who also did not call up the Senegalese Krépin Diatta, left at the disposal of his selection, will however be able to count on the return from injury of defenders Christian Mawissa and Eric Dier.
