Paris Women’s Sports: Stadiums & Empowerment

On the Parisian playgrounds, they no longer wait to be given space, they take it. This is essentially the message that the basketball players of the Girlz in da Hoop collective wanted to convey, during a symbolic action at the beginning of November on the street-ball area of the Quai de Jemmapes (Paris, 10th arrondissement).

There were around thirty of them, club players or regulars on outdoor courts, who responded to the call from Aurélie Delpech, school teacher, street basketball player for several years and founder of the collective. For half a day, they held a series of confrontations, between women but also mixed with regulars from the Quai de Jemmapes.
