Morelia, Michoacan – The Nicolaitan badminton players, Karen and Uziel Barrera, finished their participation in the “El Pavito” National Tournament, held recently in Salamanca, Guanajuato, in an outstanding manner. In this event, competitors from various entities, such as Jalisco, Mexico City, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Michoacán, gathered.
Uziel, 17 years old and a first-year Accounting student at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), won a total of three medals: a bronze in the Under 19 singles category, and two silvers in doubles, both in Under 19 and in the open category.
For her part, Karen, 20 years old and a Marketing student, won the silver medal in the women’s open category and the gold in the open doubles category. The young woman indicated that the competition was an opportunity to identify areas of improvement for the next cycle. “I felt good, although I noticed several deficiencies, which indicates that we must train even more for next year, which will be crucial, especially for the Primera Fuerza tournaments, including the National Universiade, the most important event for our university,” he stated.
Karen also highlighted her brother’s progress in the sport, noting that his performance in the tournament reflected notable improvement. “Uziel showed a considerably higher level, which motivates us to continue perfecting our skills and working on the weaknesses we still have,” he concluded.
