MORELIA, Mich., December 17, 2025.- The Nicolaitan badminton players, Karen Barrera and Uziel Barrera, closed their 2025 activity in a notable way, after they won five medals in the El Pavito National Tournament, which took place over the weekend in Salamanca, Guanajuato, and in which athletes from states such as Jalisco, Mexico City, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Michoacán competed.
A statement indicates that Uziel, who is 17 years old and is in his first year of Accounting at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), won three medals: a Bronze in Under 19 singles; a Silver in doubles Under 19, and another Silver in open category doubles.
While Karen, 20 years old, a student in the fifth semester of Marketing, achieved a Silver in singles in the women’s open category and Gold in doubles in the women’s open category, and assured that This contest serves to refine details for next year’s competitions.
“In general I felt good, but with several deficiencies, which means that we will have to train even more for the next cycle, which is the most important, where the Primera Fuerza tournaments are located, the most important tournament for our University, which is the National Universiade. Let’s continue preparing for what comes next, next year will be better, since we already complete the team and we could fight for a team medal.”
On the other hand, Karen highlighted the growth that her brother has had in the practice of this discipline, in addition to confessing that they detected details that need to be improved.
“The one who had the best performance in this competition was Uziel, my brother, the truth is that it was very noticeable that he rose in level in this tournament, the change was quite noticeable and that gives us motivation. This did help us prepare, but we also realized the deficiencies that we still have to be able to improve and perfect them,” he considered.
