Nicolaita Taekwondo: UMSNH Students Excel Internationally

Morelia, Michoacán, December 29, 2025. – Ana Sofia Montañez and Alonso Pineda Espinosa, students at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) have given great satisfaction to the Nicolaita community by being two of its best exponents in the discipline of Taekwondo.

Ana Sofía, is a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, and had a very productive 2025 by participating in international competitions, since at the beginning of September she competed in the President’s Cup in Lima, Peru, and at the beginning of December the Under 21 World Cup of the specialty was held in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa.

“Competing at an international level is a very pleasant experience, which fills me with a lot of pride, more than anything for the opportunity to represent my country and also my University, which have made me feel very supported, it is nice to feel the support and that the authorities are standing by,” shared the 20-year-old girl, who won a Bronze at the 2024 National Universiade.

For his part, Alonso Pineda, who is a student of Architecture, was a candidate for the State Sports Award thanks to the second place in teams and third place individually that he obtained at the Américas Games Colombia, in addition to the fact that in 2025 he endorsed the Silver medal that he obtained in 2024 at the National Universiade.

“It was a year of great sacrifice, I appreciate the support of the rector Yarabí Ávila González and all those who have supported me in my process, my coaches, my grandparents, my family, my friends, but especially for my parents, who are the ones who have supported me the most and encouraged me to continue in what I am most passionate about,” shared the 22-year-old artemarcialista.
