Nedvěd & Koubek Meeting: National Team Coach Confirms

Nowhere. Koubek did not meet with Nedvěd and Grygera at the union offices in Strahov, Prague. The gentlemen did not choose any other more discreet place for the very important meeting. The possible engagement of Koubek to the national team was discussed in the restaurant Penzion 68 in Kladno, where Koubek settled.

The photo was captured by one of the other guests of the establishment, he provided it Kladno newspaper and the photo has been going viral since early Tuesday evening.

The picture shows a coach bard with a lemonade, two famous ex-representatives in suits are sitting opposite him. Nedvěd has been dressing him as the general manager of the national teams since the summer, while Gryger’s colleague is vice-president of the union. Both belong to the sports management group, which is in charge of selecting the national team coach.

It includes union chairman David Trunda, who is now in Qatar on business. Coincidentally, on Tuesday he was supposed to represent the Czech Republic at the FIFA gala dinner, which was to be attended by 800 guests. In the meantime, a key topic was being discussed at the Kladno location.

Who will take over the national team? And will it be Koubek?

The national team has been searching for a coach for 62 days in vain after the dismissal of Ivan Hašek. Ideas involving the engagement of Fatih Terim or Jürgen Klinsmann came to nothing. On Saturday, Slavia definitively checked the temporary transfer of Jindřich Trpišovský to the national team. On Monday, the news spread again that Slaven Bilič also rejected the Czech incentives. The Croatian coach confirmed this for the newspaper Jutarnij List.

Attention focused on Koubek. It was reported by isport.cz, while the infotbal server added that Koubek had already looked up assistants – former representative Jaroslav Plašil and Marko Bakoš, with whom he worked successfully in Pilsen.

The name of the experienced coaching bard is derived from Hašek’s dismissal. According to behind-the-scenes reports, it was promoted, for example, by Adolf Šádek – Pilsen boss, member of the executive committee and, until recently, a member of the sports management group.

According to sources at Sport.cz, the management of the union contacted Koubek only at the beginning of the week, when negotiations with previous candidates broke down. The photo from the Kladno meeting proves that negotiations are already underway.

The national team is waiting for a playoff in March to advance to the World Championship. He will welcome the Irish in the semi-finals. In the event of promotion, the better of the pair, Denmark and North Macedonia, will travel to Prague.
