After more than 52 years, the Knicks have once again won a title. It’s only the NBA Cup, but it was also celebrated a little in Las Vegas. The Knicks’ top scorers were OG Anunoby (28 points) and Jalen Brunson (25), but in the end it was role players like Mitchell Robinson (9 points, 15 rebounds), Jordan Clarkson (15) and Tyler Kolek (14) who made important plays for the Knicks. Brunson was still named MVP.
San Antonio led by double digits in the second half, but didn’t do much in the fourth quarter. This also applied to Victor Wembanyama, who came off the bench again. With 18 points (7/17 FG, 6 rebounds), he was the best scorer after rookie Dylan Harper (21), and a total of seven Texans players scored in double figures.
At first everything was pretty balanced. The Knicks converted their threes, but thanks to De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs got into the zone at will and distributed the balls there well. For New York it was mainly Brunson and Anunoby who brought offense; for the Spurs it was a little more balanced. And so the Texans led 61:59 at the break, even though Wembanyama was only a defensive factor until then.
